I had dinner last night at 'Aux Provencaux" in Kojimachi with its humorous chef, Toshio Nakano, highlighting a range of 2009s from Delas. Although I definitely prefer the cooler Shiraz styles of the northern Rhône valley, the public made it clear to me why Châteauneuf-du-Pape enjoys such universal approbation. The vintage certainly deserves its accolades, but I find it easier to drink a second glass of Saint Joseph at 12.5% than the first of the former at 15%. Am I growing old? Or does alcohol tolerance really vary so highly from one individual to the next? Comments |
